This pair of fine ecru linen sheets was bought from the grandson of the woman who embroidered them. The H stands for one of the family names, Huit, and they date from the end of the 19th century. This pair is remarkable for the fact of being unused despite their age as well as for finding two identical sheets in such good condition. Typical of the period, a central serged seam joins the two pieces of hand-loomed linen, woven on looms too small to accomodate the size of a queen bed. A very large monogram LH, embroidered in plumetis, adorns the center of each sheet and an important embroidered row of windowpanes runs the length of the return border. 19th c. Dimensions: 126 x 87in.
