Charming and extremely fine pair of small pure white "fil de lin" linen boudoir pillow shams. This lovely pair of shams is of the highest quality, loomed of a silk-like white linen and crafted with extreme finesse. These have a broad ruffled border with miniscule white on white and cutwork embroidery all around its delicately scalloped edge and two tiny flowers embroidered on the face of the sham. These flowers decorated a monogram, JJ, which is still faintly legible and either was marked but never executed or removed - but tiny, almost imperceptible stitch marks are present. They close at the back with six miniature mother-of-pearl buttons. 19th c. Perfect, unused condition. Dimensions exterior: 17.5 x 17.5, interior: 14 x 14in.
