Antique french linen damask napkins, monogra

Antique french linen damask napkins, monogra

An unusually ample service of seventeen magnificent, very large damask napkins with a central monogram "PC." This service is loomed of a fine but luxuriously weighty and silken pure white linen which shows an excellent relief in the damask patterning. The monograms are meticulously embroidered in a high relief of bourdon, each letter garnished with tiny embroidered leaves, and encircled by a garland of flowers in the damask weave. An abundant damask frieze of large, open-faced lilies and sprays of smaller flowers frames each piece, with tinier blooms dotting the central space. Rare for the number of pieces and truly a top quality stunning service! Hand-hemmed. Sixteen of the seventeen napkins are in excellent condition. A single napkin has a well executed repair measuring about an inch long and located just near one of the selvedged edges. Early to mid 20th c. Dimensions: 33 x 28.5in.
