Antique French Viscount handkerchief

Antique French Viscount handkerchief

Supremely delicate this handkerchief dating from the Napoleon III era (roughly 1850 - 1870) is hand loomed of an extremely fine white linen batiste. Its border is exqusitely and completely embroidered with a motif of fleur de lys, symbol of royalty, and finished with a finely scalloped embroidered edge. A large, elaborate and meticulously embroidered monogram, "L," embellished with flowers and the crown of a prince, occupies one corner. Quite likely the "L" stands for Louis. This important piece is in relatively very good condition. There are however three very tiny mends in the batiste, visible in the fourth photo. Dimensions: 14 x 13in.
