A work of art and of remarkable beauty this elegant sheet, certainly created for a marriage trousseau, is loomed of a weighty and very silken pure white "fil de lin" linen with a luxuriant drape. A simply spectacular monogram, "LV" measuring 17 x 11 inches adorns its center and is embellished with flowers, fleurs de lys, the symbol of royalty, and ears of wheat, the symbol of prosperity and abundance. The embroidery, executed in an important relief of bourdon and post point, is museum quality in both its execution and design. A single, tiny hemstitch underscores the return, and the hem at the foot of the sheet is hand sewn. Impeccable condition save for a faint trace of a storage mark that ran along one of the folds toward the foot of the sheet and will disappear in subsequent launderings. Late 19th - early 20th c.
