A veritable garden of embroidery this very pretty sheet was no doubt a labor of love intended for a marriage trousseau. Loomed of superb quality of light to medium weight pure white "fil de lin" linen it displays a fancy central monogram "JG," garnished with budding rose vines and embroidered in a perfectly executed bourdon with an important relief. The entire return is richly embroidered in miniscule stitches of bourdon, post and tige point with vines and flowers that interlace and weave about each other with a seemingly effortless delicacy and grace. A single crossed drawn thread row of embroidery underscores the flowers and serves to finish the border. All in all a consummate work that likely dates from the late 19th to early 20th century. Hand hemmed with near invisible stitches. Impeccable condition. Dimensions: 128 x 93in.
