A perfectly splendid sheet that was no doubt created for a marriage tousseau! This graceful piece is loomed of a deliciously supple but tightly loomed and superb quality of pure white "fil de lin" linen. An unusually grand and fancy monogram, "DL," measuring 22 x 11 inches is embroidered in a meticulous bourdon and elaborately embellished with sinous flowering vines which serve not only to decorate the monogram but also to entwine the initials of the husband and wife. Underscoring this magnificent display, two wide bands of bobbin lace with a charming motif of peacocks run the entire length of the return, one inset and the other scalloped and serving as an important border trim. This spectacular sheet likely dates from the end of the 19th to the early 20th century and is in impeccable condition. Dimensions: 122 x 92.5in.
