A thing of beauty, this delicate pillow sham is as lovely and refined as they come! Loomed of a deliciously fine and silky pure white "fil de lin" linen it has an impeccably embroidered floral motif that makes an interior square, framed by a delicate crossed drawn thread row of embroidery. The flowers are executed in plumetis and tige point with a truly stunning finesse. The edge of the sham is bordered with an equally fine and beautiful crocheted lace which makes for a ring of flowers. A tiny monogram, "MK," is embroidered in red cross stitch on the back of sham at the edge of the button panel. These understated monograms, known in France as "marquage," were used to identify one's linens when the community laundering took place. Likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, this sham is entirely hand stitched and in impeccable condition. Closure at the back with six mother-of-pearl buttons. Dimensions: interior 26.5 x 26.5in., exterior 30.5 x 30.5in
